Welcome to 4th Grade

The fourth grade teachers are excited to work with you and your child this school year. We want learning to be fun and engaging. In fourth grade we believe in the growth mindset. Every child, no matter their ability level, can grow as a learner and experience success.

Fourth graders are required to take their standardized test, Georgia Milestones, on the Chromebooks. Lots of activities involving Chromebooks are planned for the year, so students can feel comfortable using them. Students will take the READING/ELA/WRITING (3 days) and MATH (2 days) portions of the test. Georgia standards that will be tested may be found at the following links:

ELA: https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Frameworks/ELA-Grade-4-Standards.pdf

Math:  https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Documents/Grade-K-5-Mathematics-Standards.pdf

We understand emergencies happen, but attendance is extremely important. If students are not here, tardy, or check out, we cannot teach them. Please encourage your child to listen and follow directions, to be kind to others, and to do their best each day.

Please encourage your child to read every night. Reading builds fluency and comprehension. This will also help in the other content areas.

Please work with your child on fluency of basic math facts. Basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and divisions facts are foundational skills that should be mastered by the end of 3rd grade. In fourth grade we focus on bigger numbers.

We have a parent resource center located in the office foyer. It has magazines with helpful tips for parents. Come in and browse the titles. They are available in Spanish and English.
