Mrs. Michael's students are practicing (vertical learning, on the classroom walls) a multi-digit division strategy called the distributive Property of Division.
Mrs. Sirmans' shared reading story for the past two weeks has been Tucket’s Travels by Gary Paulson. As a final activity, students had to work in groups using the design process to create shelters. This activity comes from the part in the story where the main character is forced to find shelter in the middle of nowhere for himself and children who are in his care. Like the boy in the story, the students had to use whatever materials were available. The final test was to see if their shelters would withstand high winds. The kids had a blast working together to design, create, and improve their designs.
Mrs. Kallam's classes worked on a STEM activity that involved building shelters for the story Tucket's Travels. Students tested their shelters to see if the shelters could withstand a windstorm. After their test, students wrote a reflection about what worked and didn't work with the construction of their shelter.
Congratulations to Mrs. Charlotte Harper who was named Berrien Elementary School's Teacher of the Year for 2019-2020!
