Mrs. Sirmans' Classes Construct Shelters in STEM Activity
Mrs. Sirmans' shared reading story for the past two weeks has been Tucket’s Travels by Gary Paulson. As a final activity, students had to work in groups using the design process to create shelters. This activity comes from the part in the story where the main character is forced to find shelter in the middle of nowhere for himself and children who are in his care. Like the boy in the story, the students had to use whatever materials were available. The final test was to see if their shelters would withstand high winds. The kids had a blast working together to design, create, and improve their designs.
