Mrs. Sirmans' Classes Construct Shelters in STEM Activity

Mrs. Sirmans' shared reading story for the past two weeks has been Tucket’s Travels by Gary Paulson. As a final activity, students had to work in groups using the design process to create shelters. This activity comes from the part in the story where the main character is forced to find shelter in the middle of nowhere for himself and children who are in his care. Like the boy in the story, the students had to use whatever materials were available. The final test was to see if their shelters would withstand high winds. The kids had a blast working together to design, create, and improve their designs.

Mrs. Kallam's Students Build Shelters for STEM Activity

Mrs. Kallam's classes worked on a STEM activity that involved building shelters for the story Tucket's Travels. Students tested their shelters to see if the shelters could withstand a windstorm. After their test, students wrote a reflection about what worked and didn't work with the construction of their shelter.

BES Music Department

Here at the BES music department I love to help students explore music through composition, dance, singing, and instrument playing.

Quick overview of curriculum

Almost every class period students learn music using my online curriculum called Quaver Music.  If you are interested in looking at the curriculum here is the website link.

https://www.quavermusic.com/info/

 Annual Concerts

3rd grade- Every year the 3rd grade class prepares a Christmas Musical for parents and their teachers.

4th grade- Every year the 4th grade class prepares a Veterans Day concert for parents and local veterans.

5th grade- The 5th grade class prepares a "graduation" concert for parents as they move to the middle school.

Annual music department fundraisers

Grade Level dances-  I run each dance for that grade level in the Fall, Winter, or Spring.  The dances are always held on a Friday afternoon with food and drinks for sale.  The cost is $5 to get into the dance and the students always have a blast!

Chic-Fil-A Fundraiser-  3 times a year I send out order forms for Chic-Fil-A biscuits.  The biscuits are delivered on a Friday morning for students to enjoy in their classroom.
